ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER: IS IT A LEARNING DISABILITY?
When we talk of the term “learning disability” then what we generally mean is that it is a perceptual disability like other disabilities such as autism or visual processing disorder, or dyslexia auditory disability. It should not be treated as a learning disability. Anyone who has ADD is perfectly capable of understanding and using the available information. Hence it cannot be considered as a learning disability.
ADD doesn’t really obstruct the learning process although it is combined with all other disabilities most of the time. A small child who is suffering from ADD can take in the information he sees and then he can process it and even keep it in his memory just like normal human beings. The only problem is attracting his attention for long enough so that he may take in the information to begin with.
He has problems in school and also in general but this can’t be treated as a disability of any kind. Once the treatment for his ADD problem starts, his performance in school shoots up. But sometimes, a person who has ADD problem might not be having any difficulty in his education at all. It is different from person to person.
But we must remember that there are other disabilities, especially, in very small pre school children, They might have problems in understanding sounds and words and may have some speech problems too. Those kids who are of reading writing age may experience reading, writings and mathematical and spelling problems. Similarly Dyslexia, which is reading disorder, is very common among children having ADD. But it must be kept in mind that it is not necessary that all the children may have these problems.
Some difficulties may arise in ADD affected children but here there are various ways of improving the situation. Most of them are benefited by a fixed schedule, by having the same time for all the activities. They are weak in remembering things, so routine work helps them. The habit developed by repetition of activity helps them.
Similarly, if you keep things in a fixed place then they find it easier to remember it. They can even be helped by binders and planners for the activities they have to undertake. It helps them in being organized.
In class, if the teacher has an interactive attitude instead of giving a lecture then the child manages to give more attention to the work in hand and his frequency of distractions may go down.
Thus, you must remember that a child, inspire of having this disorder can grow into a successful person.

ADD: HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOUR CHILDíS SCHOOLING AND EDUCATION?
It is a difficult task ahead to teach a child with Attention Deficit Disorder. Many schools have identified the problem and addressed the issue because substantial developments have been made to recognize the problem. But still there are some schools that lag behind in their systematic arrangements and cannot always answer individual needs.
The way ADD influences a classroom has been seen even before any diagnosis is done. It may be observed in the boy following boisterously his classmates to snatch their books, or in the small girl sitting in the corner and playing with her hair, her mind on the outside view. It is usually the teacher who first recognizes that her student is having problem attending to the class or active more than what is acceptable. But identifying the problem is just merely the first step, and the most difficult part is changing the inattentive or hyperactive attitude.
The treatment of the disorder starts when everyone acknowledges it and a diagnosis is has been carried out. It is important to decide whether medicine is required, since that would determine the course of the treatment. There are a number of schools, which quite inhumanly emphasize that the child suffering from ADD be given medicines. Some schools, though, take a patient stance and comply with the wishes of the child’s parents’.
Whether your child is better able to cope with the situation will be determined by the kind of school he is in. In an ideal situation, your child should attend a school that understands the effectiveness of working together as a team by taking stock of your circumstances and respecting your decisions, to lead your child to the achieve the best that he or she could do. Regrettably some schools lack this open-minded vision. Communities that are small and places that are poor compared to other districts have this habit of being too much conservative and are not open to cater to children who have special needs or specific situations. If your child is admitted to a school of the first kind, then you can relax happily, but if it is of the latter type, then be warned that you will have quite a handful of issues to reckon with!
ADD makes children hard to instruct, they are generally chaotic and very difficult to control. For these reasons many school refuse to accommodate such unruly children. Nonetheless, you make sure that your child is not given secondary treatment under any circumstances.
There are certain schools who will very promptly strive to put the child with the disorder in corrective classes, even if the child’s level of intelligence does not allow that measure. In many cases, this step is taken not to take away the time of the class schedule and disturb the other kids, but you will surely not like your child to be compartmentalized in a bad light that has no foundation.
Remember finally that you are the child’s parents and should be there always for him or her. If any decision taken by the class teacher or principal goes against the well-being of your child, you should always discuss it with them and come to a better plan that would ensure the best for your child.

10 ADVANTAGES OF HAVING ADD
There is a widespread mistaken belief in the world that getting Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD is a dreadful thing. Even as the ADD afflicted brain without doubt holds out a few risks, it puts forward a few hard to believe advantages as well. Given below is a listing of mannerisms that I over and over again see in my patrons, friends, and contemporaries with ADD.
1. Empathy
People with ADD have an incredible control to associate with other people. But it goes a notch ahead than that. We also have a highly developed capability to identify with others, and to see a lot of diverse point of views.
2. Ingenuity
I have on no account come across an ADDer who was not ingenious. Painters, designers, sculptors, film makers, writers, musicians, and comedians - the list goes on. Creative aptitudes are plentiful. Composers Mozart and Beethoven are assumed to have had ADD.
3. Enthusiasm
When an ADDer is fed up with a job, finishing it can look as if like torment. But provide an ADDer an attention grabbing task to work on and look out. When we would like to achieve something, and we have the essential tools to do so, there is no stopping us.
4. Problem Solving Capability
ADDers flourish on deciphering puzzles and problems. Provide us with an attention grabbing problem to crack and we will not be able to leave it until we have established the explanation. Significant historical inventors such as Thomas Edison and Thomas Jefferson are assumed to have had ADD.
5. Hyper-Focus
The capacity to hyper-focus is something that ADDers can make use of to our benefit. When kept under control and aimed towards fruitful jobs, like achieving objectives and living dreams, it can be an unbelievable positive feature that allows us to get the work done, and done well.
6. Sense of Humor/Flair for Comedy
Nearly all ADDers love to laugh, and a lot of them have an ability to make others laugh as well. Well known humorists such as Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams are believed to have ADD.
7. Spirit
There is no doubt that despite the fact that there are many great traits that come alongside with ADD, there are also challenge. But ADDers have a hard to believe capability to spring back back from those challenges, and others' condemnation of those challenges that we have undergone.
8. Intuitiveness
ADDers have a quick sense of perception. This may be as a result of extremely refrained intensity of awareness, or great innate knowledge of the human mind, or something else that we have thus far to comprehend. No matter what the explanation is, it is a very valuable gift.
9. Idea Generating
ADDers are brilliant proposal makers. We do not by and large like to be troubled with particulars, but we can crop up with thoughts in no time at all. We are a real benefit in brainstorming meetings.
10. That "Special Something"
A lot of ADDers believe that they have an exceptional way of looking at the world, a point of view that others simply do not comprehend. That is, until the ADDer comes across other people with ADD. You may say that we are on our own wavelength.

6 TIPS FOR SLOWING DOWN THE ADD BRAIN
If you are a grown up person having ADD, then you may be familiar that at times, slowing down is a very difficult thing to do. There are a lot of jobs to get done and so little time to get them completed. So your mind starts working in a high speed, trying to achieve it all and more, or getting upset about the actuality that it look as if it is not viable to get it all completed. As a result, you use up a lot of time constantly worrying, and very little time getting pleasure from life.
While slowing down is a complex ability to put up, it can be made.
Here are 6 established methods to slow down the adult ADD brain:
1. Put down Work
Fix up your business hours and stand by them. Even though at times it is essential to work overtime, do not do it if not you just have to. You will work more competently during the day when the time you have to complete your job is fixed. And take a break on weekends ñ or at least 2 days a week. You ought to have it.
2. Arrange for a Night out with Others
Nothing is more enjoyable than having a night out with people you like. This may well be with colleagues, friends, family, or members of a group you are a part of. Have a good time.
3. Make a Weekly Obligation (Like Taking a Class or Involving Yourself in a Group)
Find a reason to go out of the house and out of the office each week. Attend a class, if possible to learn something you for all time wanted to know how to do. Make certain that you *pay* for the class beforehand so you will not be coaxed to miss it out.
4. Diary
Maintaining a diary compels you to stop, think over and act out. It aids you to deal with nervous tension and achieve clearness. Formulate the resolution to do it every day - even if it is merely for 10 minutes! Do not be bothered about sentence structure, syntax, punctuation, or flow since no one else ever has to see it.
5. Meditate
There are a lot of diverse methods of meditation, but I have a preference for mindfulness meditation. This is merely the action of being there in the present instant - whether you are working, walking, or washing the dishes. Make an effort to keep your mind in the instant, and do not tag on worrying or troublesome feelings when they come up. It is all right to start on little by little, with 5 minutes spent in mindful meditation daily, and after that building on your performance as you happen to be more at ease.
6. Switch off Your Computer 2 Hours before Bed
Computers are rather interesting, in particular for ADDers. Frequently at times, you will find yourself sitting at your computer at 3 o'clock in the morning completely occupied in exploring something totally arbitrary. You just cannot move away from the pc and go to bed, and that is for the reason that the computer stimulates your brain. Switch the pc off at least two hours prior to going to sleep so as to suitably relax, and slow down, at night.

The ADD Peace of Mind ADD/ADHD Story
Hi,
I’m Jeremy Barnett and I have ADHD as well as my son Darian.
Both of us have struggled with this for years. I as a young boy had trouble
staying focused in school and would always seem to find a way to get into
trouble for not being on task. In the late 70’s & 80’s there wasn’t much
talk about ADD/ADHD. My teachers, consoler’s and the principal thought I was
just being defiant. My parents thought I
was just a typical hyperactive boy.
My teachers and consoler’s seemed to be in constant contact
with my parents about my inattentive behavior and anger outbursts. Which of course
didn’t sit well with my parents. I would get punished frequently for my poor
behavior.
I never did very well in school. A few courses I did ok in but most of my
classes I struggled in. Math was my worst subject as well as history. I just
couldn’t sit still long enough to focus on these subjects. I always lost focus
and drifted off into my own world.
As I got older I started exercising each day. I started
seeing positive changes in body which motivated me to learn to eat healthier. I
started focusing on my diet and eliminated all processed foods, junk foods,
fast foods and foods containing artificial ingredients and flavors. I also
started taking various supplements and vitamins.
Below is what I
started with:
B-Complex Vitamins
Omega 3 & 6 Fatty Acids
Vitamin C
Calcium
Magnesium
Chromium
Increased my protein intake
Increased my intake of raw vegetables
Added moderate fruits to my diet early in the day
Reduced my carbohydrate/sugar intake
After a couple of months of changing my diet, adding in the
above supplements and exercising regularly my ADHD symptoms began to diminish.
I felt happier, more focused and alert. I wasn’t so easily distracted; I rarely
had any signs of anger, depression or aggression. I finally felt in control,
happy and confident.
I had finally found the keys to controlling my ADHD symptoms
naturally.
Fast forward to 1999 and my son Darian was old enough to go
to school. He also had the same issues that I had in school. I knew exactly
what to do to help him but the school and his Mom insisted on getting him
tested for ADHD first. Of course, the Doctor’s concluded that my son has ADHD
and must be put on medications. I personally had no interest in giving my son
the medications with negative side effects and the possibility of addiction to
these drugs. Unfortunately at this time my sons mother and I were separated and
my son lived with her. She trusted the Doctor and chose to have our son take
the medication to help him. My son tried it for a while but didn’t like taking
the medication. I soon noticed a change in his personality. He was becoming
more depressed, withdrawn and like a zombie. He didn’t have any energy or
desire to do anything. This wasn’t the son I had known and it was killing me to
see him like this.
I told him I no longer wanted him to take the meds and he
had my permission to spit them out when his mother wasn’t looking. Trust me I
tried talking to her about this but she truly believed in the Doctors choice
and the medication. I know she was only looking out for his best interest as a
mother. She loved him and wanted him to get better and was hoping the
medication would help him.
My son agreed with my decision and stopped taking the
medication at age 12. This was the same time I started having him exercise and
helped him clean up his diet. Of course to get a 12 year old boy to stop eating
fast food, sweets and processed food wasn’t easy but I told him how important
it was to controlling his ADHD without the medication.
He never wanted to take the medication again so this
motivated him to work with me on his diet and exercise as an alternative
treatment. He started eating healthier, started taking supplements and
exercised each day. Within a few months he was a completely different kid.
He was energetic, focused, happy and motivated. The only
thing he didn’t like was having to take so many different supplements
especially in a pill form. He hated trying to swallow all of them. It was at
this point that he and I began researching liquid supplements that contained
all the ingredients we needed in one product. As much as we searched we
couldn’t find anything that worked the same as us taking all the supplements
individually.
We began researching supplement manufacturers in the US to
come up with a formulation that would work for ADHD symptoms. We finally found
a company that could help us and now have an amazing All-Natural Supplement called
ADD Peace of Mind.
This all-natural liquid ADHD supplement is safe for kids and
adults. It does NOT contain any artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, gluten,
